Barbara Lichtenstein is programs director of the National Gaucher CARE Foundation (NGCF). For more than 30 years, she has been involved in employee and patient advocacy, insurance and benefits development in the public and nonprofit sectors.
Ms. Lichtenstein has been at the NGCF for more than 23 years. She developed and implemented the NGF’s CARE and CARE+PLUS programs, which now support approximately 10 percent of patients receiving Gaucher disease treatment. Over the years, these programs have assisted more than 800 patients with their financial needs in the amount of 30 million dollars.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Lichtenstein managed benefits programs for a leading data processing firm. She implemented the first preferred provider organization in a company benefits program in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Lichtenstein is closely involved with the Gaucher community and enjoys the one-on-one contact and problem-solving with patients. Her expertise in the medical field and her enjoyment of helping people makes her an ideal advocate for the Gaucher community.
